Gateways
- Navigate to Admin > Site Settings.
- Select the Gateway data field.
- Select the Add button located on the bottom-right of the screen.
- Enter the New Gateway Serial No.
If you receive an the error message (e.g., Invalid Gateway Number or Unreachable Gateway) after entering the Gateway Serial No., there are two common reasons for this:
- The Gateway is not communicating to the Internet. Typically, this means the connection to the Internet is being blocked by your network’s firewall. Please contact your internal IT Department to resolve.
- The Gateway may already be registered at another site and needs to be removed from that original site by an Admin first before assigning it to a new site.
- Select Save.
- Navigate to Admin > Site Settings.
- Select the Gateway.
- Select the Name data field and enter the Name of the Gateway.
- Navigate to Admin > Site Settings.
- Select the Gateway.
- Select Delete, located on the top-right corner of the screen.

- Select Site Type.
- Select Business, Residential or Hotel. This is important because each type displays slightly different information.
- If the Site Type is set to Business, you will see all of the Pelican devices you have installed with the ability to configure each device and set thermostat and device schedules. Thermostats scheduled to be in Vacation mode will have the term Vacation displayed next to the device.
- If the Site Type is set to Hotel, you will see that rooms are displayed as Vacant; otherwise, if this is incorrectly set to Business, it would show the rooms in Vacation mode. Also, the Usage Graph contains additional details regarding usage, saving and vacancy. Refer to What are Usage Graphs for more information.
- If the Site Type is set to Residential, is a simplified version of Business where certain configuration settings may not be applicable to a residential location. For example, the Description field located under Admin > Thermostat Configuration is not displayed and the Schedule Dashboard is only available via the Pelican Web-App home screen.

- Pelican is able to accurately calculate energy consumption and provide cost graphs that display this data. In order to view the graph with associated costs for heating and cooling for a day and/or month, the Cost per Kwh (used for cooling) and Cost per Therm (used for heating) must be entered into the Site Settings.
- To enter the Utility Costs, go to Admin > Site Settings > Utility Costs.
- Electrical Cost = kWh x Cost / kWh
- Gas/Oil Cost = Therms x Cost / Therm
NOTE: For the most accurate estimate, a recent utility energy statement should be consulted. The average Cost / kWh and Cost / Therm can be calculated by dividing the charged amount on the energy bill by the total energy usage on the bill.
Energy costs are simply the average rate charged multiplied by the energy consumed:
